Proof of funds means evidence you can pay for the trip without working illegally. Schengen states expect roughly €50–€120 per day, the UK and US set no fixed figure but assess the whole file, and most consulates want three to six months of official bank statements plus income evidence such as payslips or tax returns.
How much is enough
Take the destination's published daily minimum, multiply by nights, add flights and a 20–30% buffer. If accommodation is prepaid or you have a host, say so in the cover letter — officers reduce the expectation when the cost is already covered, but only if the evidence is in the file.
What counts as evidence
Current and savings account statements from a regulated bank are the gold standard. Credit-card limits, cryptocurrency wallets and unverifiable digital wallets generally do not count. Fixed deposits help as supporting evidence, not as your only liquidity.
Sponsorship
