Japan Visa-Free Countries 2026: Full List & Entry Rules

Quick answer

68 nationalities can enter Japan visa-free for tourism. Most get 90 days on arrival.

JESTA — the new pre-clearance

From 2026 Japan rolls out JESTA (Japan Electronic System for Travel Authorization), similar to US ESTA. Apply online 72h before arrival, ¥800, valid 2 years.

Visa-free regions

  • Americas: USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay
  • Europe: All Schengen + UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Serbia
  • Asia/Oceania: South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, NZ
  • Middle East: UAE, Israel, Turkey

On arrival

  • Passport valid for the stay length
  • Return / onward ticket
  • Proof of funds (rarely checked — budget ~¥10,000/day)
  • Filled disembarkation card (now digital via Visit Japan Web)

Working remotely

Visa-free entry doesn't permit local work, but remote work for a foreign employer is tolerated for short stays. For longer, apply for the new Digital Nomad Visa (6 months).
