Vietnam issues a 90-day eVisa to all nationalities, single or multiple entry, costing $25 or $50 and normally processed in three working days. Around 25 nationalities also enjoy visa exemption for 15–45 days. The eVisa is valid at more than 40 land, air and sea border gates and cannot usually be extended.
Applying for the eVisa
Apply on the official immigration portal with a passport scan, a passport-style photo, your entry date and the exact border gate you will use. Approvals arrive by email as a PDF you must print. Third-party sites charging service fees are not the government portal.
Exemptions
Citizens of several European and ASEAN countries enter without a visa for 15 to 45 days. Exemption periods are counted from the day of entry and cannot be extended without leaving and applying for an eVisa.
Practical traps
Choose the entry gate carefully — although eVisa holders may exit anywhere, entering at a gate other than the one listed has caused refusals. Passport validity of six months and a blank page are checked at boarding.
