India visa guide: eVisa categories, fees and entry rules
India eVisa in 2026 — tourist, business and medical categories, 30-day to 5-year validity, fees, designated airports and required uploads.
Most travellers use the India eVisa, applied for online at least four days before arrival and normally issued in 72 hours. Tourist eVisas come in 30-day double-entry, one-year and five-year multiple-entry versions costing roughly $25–$80, valid for entry at 30+ designated airports and seaports.
Which eVisa to choose
The 30-day tourist eVisa is double entry and dated from arrival; the one- and five-year versions are multiple entry with a 90-day cap per visit for most nationalities. Business, medical and conference categories have their own document sets and cannot be used for tourism.
Application essentials
You upload a passport bio page scan, a recent square photo on a white background, and for some categories a business or hospital letter. Details must match the passport exactly — mismatched names are the biggest cause of denied boarding.
Where you can enter
eVisa holders may enter through designated airports and seaports only; land border crossings require a regular sticker visa. Exit is permitted from any authorised immigration checkpoint.
Restricted areas
Parts of the north-east, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Sikkim require a separate Protected or Restricted Area Permit in addition to your visa. Arrange these before travel where possible.
